The Carlton development
project will convert the Carlton Hotel building into 49 luxury,
for-sale condominiums. The eight-story, “U” shaped
building located at 2195 John R in historic Brush Park was
built in 1923 and designed by Detroit architect Louis Kamper.
This project will provide for the redevelopment of the 76,000
square foot building into 23 single-story units and 26 two-story
units. Additionally, 4,842 square feet will be used for commercial
development. Residents will have on-site parking in a secure
fenced lot. The Carlton Lofts are in an area designated as
a Neighborhood Enterprise Zone (NEZ), which provides for substantially
lower property tax liabilities. The DIF’s financing
was completed in partnership with Standard Federal Bank and
National City Bank’s CDC.
